Hi there, if you used a search engine and hoped to find free hosting or as popular said $0.00 hosting, you will not find it here, instead you will find me rambling about why this doesn’t exist. What you won’t find in this article is which companies are offering these free services, as (you might expect) free simply does not exist.
Today a customer told me about this great hosting company which offers $0.00 hosting, oh well great i thought, here we go again. So I asked our customer which company it was (as always i am interested in what the customer attracts to these sites, besides we learn about customer expectation, we also learn about our competitor, which is not bad either), i started to look to the small prints, but didn’t need to go far this time. Clicking on Order did the trick this time.
The company offered FREE HOSTING for EACH DOMAIN ordered trough them, immediately my alarm bells started to ring, and thought, i wonder what this company is asking for their 100mb free hosting with 1gb data-transfer every month. And like you may have guessed by now, they asked a sweet $25,00 for the domain only (with of-course the so called Free Hosting for Each Domain), yeah i am sure, they charge the hosting costs in the domain!
And this way they are sure you are not going to run within the year! you will stick by them, or you have to pay the transfer costs to another host. At the end of the year you are afraid to loose your domain name if you are asking them to move, and well, they have you as a customer till they really mess up and you as customer are so fed up you WANT to move at all costs.
