The cPanel Quality Assurance team discovered a bug within the SpamAssassin ruleset that will mark messages sent in the year 2010 (that’s today) and beyond with a higher spam score than expected. This bug can result in legitimate mail being flagged as spam.

The cPanel Development team has issued a hot fix that will address this issue and will automatically update the SpamAssassin ruleset to resolve this issue.

This patch has been installed to all 040 Hosting managed servers but we advise customers to check their spam box more thorougly and to check their mail of the past days if they have enabled spamassassin in their cPanel.

For a more detailed explanation and information on resolving this problem on a non-cPanel environment, please review:

https://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=6269

As always, the entire cPanel team has pulled together to provide a rapid response to this issue as we realize proper email delivery is mission critical.

A software developer has uncovered a bug in most versions of Linux that could allow untrusted users to gain complete control over the open-source operating system.

The null pointer dereference flaw was only fixed in the upcoming 2.6.32 release candidate of the Linux kernel, making virtually all production versions in use at the moment vulnerable. While attacks can be prevented by implementing a common feature known as mmap_min_addr, the RHEL distribution, short for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, doesn’t properly implement that protection, Brad Spengler, who discovered the bug in mid October, told The Register.

Read the complete article at The Register. New kernels are available for Redhat and CentOS (obviously), and likely others who may be affected.

At the moment of publishing all main servers have been updated and others are scheduled for tonight.

Hello,

This message is to inform you of an upcoming maintenance for the PISO server.

Our engineers will be migrating servers from the server rack for future datacenter expansion. The server will be powered offline and physically migrated to a new rack in our datacenter.

The physical move will require approximately 20 minutes of downtime.
This maintenance will not impact any data on the server, nor will any network changes be required.

The server will be moved on: 31/12/2008 ; 23:00 – 01:00 am GMT+1.

We understand that server uptime is critical to your business, and scheduled this move for a maintenance window which least affects our customers.

Thank you for your understanding.

We like to take the time and wish everyone a happy New Year !

Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70: Service Organizations, commonly abbreviated as SAS 70, is an auditing statement issued by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), officially titled “Reports on the Processing of Transactions by Service Organizations”. SAS 70 defines the professional standards used by a service auditor to assess the internal controls of a service organization and issue a service auditor’s report. Service organizations are typically entities that provide outsourcing services that impact the control environment of their customers. Examples of service organizations are insurance and medical claims processors, trust companies, hosted data centers, application service providers (ASPs), managed security providers, credit processing organizations and clearinghouses.

Our US Datacenter (Dallas, Washington DC and Seattle) recently upgraded all of its data centers’ network connectivity. The upgrades included additional 10G connections, for a total of 20 across the company’s facilities in Dallas, Seattle, and Washington DC. The new connections provide additional redundancy with low latency across both Public and Private networks and increase bandwidth for customers’ ever-growing capacity needs.

The Seattle data center received additional 10G peering connections from Comcast and the Seattle Internet Exchange (SIX), as well as 10G transit connections from Level 3 and NTT America. The facility’s upgrades included the installation of Internap’s Flow Control Platform (FCP), which enhances Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing performance by monitoring each provider’s connections and rerouting traffic when a connection is interrupted.

The Dallas data center’s upgrades included adding a 10G Comcast connection for private peering. Currently this link carries more than 2.5Gbps of network traffic; in the coming days, it will have connectivity into Equinix facilities in Dallas and Washington DC, providing direct connections to additional carriers.

The upgraded data center connectivity looks as follows:

Dallas, TX

Comcast – 1x10Gbps

Global Crossing – 1x10Gbps
