Hoodie Allen released a new Video

This service, which is supposed to list blocks of IP addresses that are assigned dynamically, is currently misclassifying at least one network range and rejecting mail from any IP address in that space. Some of 040Hosting’s servers are using addresses in this particulair range.

This misclassification has caused email deliverability problems for some users of 040Hosting’s email solutions, and many other valid mail senders as well. We’re seeing quite a few tweets about issues with SORBS today and message threads regarding SORBS DUHL incorrect listings.

040Hosting’s support department is aware of this issue and has been working to resolve the problem with SORBS technical support (which has thus far been unresponsive to repeated inquiries). Up to now we haven’t seen any public response from SORBS about what might be going on with their service.

We all know that false positives can happen with any blocklist service and 040Hosting advises email administrators which are relying on just a single RBL service for reviewing thier setup, note that the DUHL list is not even a SPAM black list. In the case of SORBS, this is (at least) the second major misclassification issue we’ve observed in the last 90 days. Email administrators who currently rely on SORBS should be aware of these issues and take action as necessary.

040Hosting does NOT rely on the SORBS DUHL for analyzing inbound email – we have our own reputation systems. Our comments here are about deliverability problems our customers are experiencing with their outbound (sent) email being blocked by recipients that *do* use the SORBS DUHL listing.

Once again we at 040Hosting want to stress out we have a zero tolerance policy for spam, but the DUHL list has nothing to do with spam in the first place; this list only TRIES to make a difference between dynamic IP’s and static IP’s and does in no way state if a IP is sending spam. Unfortunatly the tools to delist are not working at SORBS and keep giving time outs. We keep on trying.

Update: As many asked us why we are against SORBS i have to rectify this; we are not against a list like SORBS but we are against the usage in a poor manner as many seems to do; you should not use such a list as only measure to stop spam, you can use it to calculate the weight of the spam and move from there, further more if SORBS would be taking action  or the de-listing of our IP’s would have worked (we are not able to because the site keeps timing out) we would probably not even have bothered to write this article.

Toen destijds XS4ALL overgenomen werd door KPN begon het bij mij al te kriebelen, maar vandaag heb ik deze kriebel dus ook bevestigd gekregen. Te groot te veel stopdasjes en te weinig mensen die wat over hebben voor een klant die al jaren klant is.

Een excuus en oplossing had ik verwacht; ipv van dit mag ik nu 3 maanden ADSL betalen die ik helemaal niet meer wil gebruiken.
