Waarschuwing voor XS4ALL gebruikers of nieuwe klanten van XS4ALL

[in Dutch only as XS4ALL is a ISP located in the Netherlands] Beste lezer, xs4all staat bekend als een van de betere kwaliteit providers in dit land, hier hebben we altijd achter gestaan. De kwaliteit van XS4ALL is altijd goed geweest, tot dat we noodgedwongen moeten overstappen op een andere provider; dit heeft helaas als resultaat gehad dat een medewerker van XS4ALL onze opzegging niet juis heeft afgehandeld en wij alleen maar de datum en tijdstip weten van de opzegging (ivm onze VOIP telefoon logs). We hebben ons abonnement telefonisch opgezegd omdat dit gevraagd wordt op de website zelf; maar we hadden beter moeten weten en dit zwat op wit moeten laten weten aan dit inmiddels veelste grote en logge bedrijft wat eigendom is van KPN.

Toen destijds XS4ALL overgenomen werd door KPN begon het bij mij al te kriebelen, maar vandaag heb ik deze kriebel dus ook bevestigd gekregen. Te groot te veel stopdasjes en te weinig mensen die wat over hebben voor een klant die al jaren klant is.

Een excuus en oplossing had ik verwacht; ipv van dit mag ik nu 3 maanden ADSL betalen die ik helemaal niet meer wil gebruiken.

Xs4all; deze klanten ondersteuning slaat nergens op; en daar blijf ik bij. Hoe kan je een trouwe klant op deze manier afschepen. Neen, XS4ALL is niet meer het bedrijf wat het OOIT geweest is.

On January 31, DENIC will stop supporting the old registrar change procedure. Starting on February 1, 2010 domain holders must use the AuthInfo procedure to change their registrar.

GoogleDNS is coming but you told us to use OpenDNS

Yes we did indeed, several times we posted about OpenDNS on our blog; and recommended them to several of our users; and we still do. We believe that what OpenDNS does to DNS it a honest and great service. They have shown to their users they DO listen to their customer base and they did prove they deliver a professional platform.

OpenDNS now pointing to Amsterdam for UPC NL customers

OpenDNS is now pointing to Amsterdam for UPC NL customers; before the peering was setup UPC customers where transferred to the OpenDNS servers in Chicago. Latency towards the DNS servers of OpenDNS did now go from 150-160ms to 13-15ms.

ISPRENEWAL.NET Scam warning

It came to our understanding that the company ISPRENEWAL.NET is illegally harvesting your details from the WHOIS database and contacting you with domain renewal messages.

Not only is it illegal to harvest whois details in this way, they also try to take your domain to their company by sending out a warning that your domains will expire.

040 hosting does NOT auto expire domains unless a customer asks us to do so, this means that if you do not send us a ticket from your personal support account the domains will be automatically renewed as per your domain contract with us, and you do not need to fear your domain will be lost.

Update: For those visiting this thread because they receive an email of ISPRENEWAL.NET just ignore the mail; and contact your registrar of your domain to be sure your domain will stay registered. You will not need to contact ISPRENEWAL in any way or form.

Update 2: Some say ISPRENEWAL is not a scam; however they tend to forget that WHOIS harvesting is illegal; there is no legal way to obtain whois data and use it for spam mails. Tricking people in renewing a domain with them by emailing them directly with stolen whois information is what we call a SCAM.

OpenDNS now also active in Amsterdam

OpenDNS just got a bit better again; they just have expanded their service to Amsterdam; making the coverage for OpenDNS in Europe even better. We can’t wait till they also extend to Asia where good DNS services are even more needed.

Two weeks ago I was in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, doing an installation and am happy to report that as of today, that site is online and serving production OpenDNS traffic.

One of the neat things about OpenDNS is that we use something called Anycast technology in how we run our network. That’s great for you — it means no matter where you are in the world, your DNS requests route through our closest datacenter. When we do maintenance, our routing topology ensures you will route to our next closest datacenter. It also means that when we bring up a new datacenter that is closer to you, your DNS requests will go to it.
